6 of the above yarns are going to be spun into horror gold! Josh Saltzman’s award winning “Strange Yarns” is being woven into an anthology of bone-chilling shorts and we asked filmmakers with a love of the macabre to help! Over the summer, fans watched pitch videos, shared them, voted for their favorites, and now 6 have been selected for production. Follow us on Facebook for updates on their progress, and when and where you can see the completed short films!

Wattpad Presents Strange Yarns (#WPStrangeYarns) is a joint venture between Wattpad and The Coup Company. We both love bringing fans and creators together so we’re combining our efforts to bring some of Wattpad’s finest spine-tingling content to life.

Filmmakers start by submitting a video pitch based on one of the 13 selected stories from Josh Staltzman’s award winning "Strange Yarns". Over 4 weeks they are charged with engaging fans and building an audience. This horde of fans then vote for their favorite projects, influencing which ones advance. In the end, up to 6 filmmakers will be given up to 6 thousand dollars (in production funds) each to create a 6 minute short film based on one of Saltzman's yarns. The finalists will premiere at an industry event.

Strange Yarns, but Josh Saltzman

Strange Yarns

By Josh Saltzman

Strange Yarns is a ball of tangled tales. Twisted, knotted, and intertwined. Like Tales of the Crypt, the Twilight Zone, and The Outer Limits. Far from an anthology of unhinged tales, Strange Yarns is a world where the yarns interweave with a grand design...like an evil quilt.

Josh is a two-time Canadian Comedy Award winning writer and filmmaker who’s currently writing for Amazon’s Pete the Cat, which is created and show run by Swampy Marsh (Phineas & Ferb). Recently Josh was the head writer of Inspector Gadget season 2 & 3 (Netflix). He's written for animated shows including Fangbone! Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: The Series, Numb Chucks, and many others. He has also written for shows featuring living humans including Call Me Fitz starring Jason Priestly (HBO Canada/The Movie Network) and This Hour Has 22 Minutes (CBC).

Josh also makes weird comedy videos. His online shorts have been featured on the front pages of Funny or Die, College Humor, and Youtube.

Josh is from Thornhill Ontario and lives in Los Angeles with his wife and his dog, Cthulhu.
