Frequently Asked Questions

First, we’re looking for talented people who understand that being a filmmaker is being an entrepreneur as well. To this we’re challenging applicants to start building an audience before the cameras even start rolling!

Second, we’re looking for fans to participate in the entire process by supporting them! After all, successful filmmakers are nothing without their fans!

How does it work?

Audience participation helps projects advance. Filmmakers build a fanbase, then rally those fans to scream their awesomeness across the inter-webs! The more fans WATCH, SHARE, and VOTE, the more it helps!
We’re also encouraging Wattpad’s 55 million users worldwide to watch a few yarns themselves, but it’s up to filmmakers to get their own projects to stand out from the crowd.

How long does it last?

Approximately 7 weeks.

  • Filmmaker applications opens: June 13, 2017

  • Fan viewing and voting opens: July 29, 2017

  • Final 6 are announced: August 23, 2017

*Dates are subject to change.

Who can participate?

Anyone over the age of 18. Bare in mind, this is horror; it’s not exactly bedtime material for children so use a little common sense. Otherwise, invite your friends, share the awesome, and support your favourite filmmakers. Fandom has no borders!

(Filmmakers must be from Canada)

Why participate?

A better question is why not? This all about supporting filmmakers and making the content that YOU want to see. So if you don’t participate the only logical explanation is that you hate filmmakers (and probably kittens too) and you want to crush their dreams. Why would you do that?! What did kittens ever do to you?!

When do I vote?

There will be two scheduled voting windows.

  • Top 12 Voting Window: July 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM ET – August 1, 2017 at 8:00 PM ET
  • Final 6 Voting Window: August 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM ET – August 20, 2017 at 8:00 PM ET

During Voting Windows, fans are permitted one vote, per project, per day.

How do I vote?

When a Voting Window opens you will find clearly marked VOTE buttons beneath the video viewers on every project page. Just click on the VOTE buttons to cast your votes.

When Voting Windows are closed, those vote buttons will disappear.

What do filmmakers get from this deal?

  • A platform for their voices to be heard.

  • An audience of 55 million and Coup and Wattpad’s combined marketing prowess to reach even more.

  • For a lucky 6, cold hard cash to create quite possibly the crown jewel in their filmmaking repertoire and a premiere at top tier film festival.

  • Media, social marketing savvy, and exposure while building a loyal fan base.
